Hey Aliens Please Come an Visit us!
Greetings All; Shardvixen Here,
I started playing "No Man's Sky" without knowing any thing about all the game hype. I thought a game where you could explore space, whats not to love. I remember my first sci-fi series I read were "The Ship who Sang" and "Dragon Riders of Pern" by Anne McCaffrey and The Darkover series by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I went on to read both classics and new Sci-Fi. Both of the above authors showed two very different concepts about space. The authors used the spectrum of science and fantasy in the ways I liked and I write in those same ideas.
So when some of the YouTube creators I watch began to talk about the game and my roommate suggested I play it on his PlayStation, I was intrigued. I always wanted to go to space as a child and see new worlds, meet new beings and animals and learn we were not all alone in space. I was five years old when the astronauts walked on the moon and I remember the black and white news on our new color TV. I couldn't understand at the time what the big deal was because of "Lost in Space. (yes I know about the moon conspiracy theory, I don't believe it.)
Now I could go to other galaxies and explore planets. But it was a video game and apparently there were things wrong with it. Here is what I found. Like any other game, I could get into trouble and find new ways of making the game play longer then it needed to be, (Watch me play Dark Souls). I lost needed tools without understanding how and did more walking then I should have ( I must be a really healthy and skinny astronaut.). I kept watching various people stop playing the game as it became clear that there was no easy way to win.
I realized very early that the game was like MineCraft for me. I could follow the plan (the big red ball tells you want to do) or I could go off on my own and cook up lots of trouble, like crash between a floating island and the ground and die or freeze and drown on the same planet but later. Then come back and my ship be broken and the one mineral I need to get off the damn frozen hell is now where to be seen till I walk the whole planet twice.( Yes I did a series of videos.) It was at that time I realized, one could play this game for at least 6 months and do all kinds of things. Meaning someone out there could devote a whole series of videos on discovering and naming systems.
I wasn't too heartbroken that you couldn't play with other people since I don't play with other people much (because I am very unpopular, have no friends or at least ones who play video games and I am not a great player), so I was good on that part and hell, I WAS IN SPACE!!!!!!! I have a cool exo-suit, spaceship and tool I could upgrade. So what does that mean for me and the game in the long run. Well the roommate is moving out, so there goes the PlayStation which means my space travel is going to be short. But if I had a PlayStation would I buy the game for myself, yeah when the price came down in a year or so. I don't buy new games because a lot of time (not all the time), I don't think the game play is worth the price of the game when I can wait and get the game and all of its DLC later.
If I had dropped the $60 on this game thinking I was getting a totally different game then what I got, I might be pissed as many are but since I didn't have any expectations, I like the game. Do I like it as much as my role playing games, no because the story is either not there or it is hidden in the languages you need to learn. It is a lonely game with little to no interaction with other characters. Maybe that is the point, maybe space is lonely. I know it is hell because I have been frozen, radiated and cooked as well as attacked by the flora and animals on the planets I have thus far visited.
The one thing that does bum me out is the center you find is of the galaxy you are in. Now whether that means you have to go through many other glaxasies to find the center of the universe or if the center was some weird myth cooked up as to say there was an end to the game, I am not sure. I haven't really checked up on the news about "No Man's Sky" because I don't really care. I have played Minecraft for about five years now and still haven't gotten to the dragon but then I don't really try that hard. I spend my time building civilizations. MineCraft is a lonely game as well and it will eat up your time which is why I have been playing it off and on for about five years. I think that will be what "No Man's Sky" will end up for me.
I do think the creators were inspired by other space games and movies. Some of the aliens look kind of familiar but that might just be me, I remember shapes and see them in patterns. I see some familiar faces from places I have lived here where I live now. If you are interested in the various ways people have played "No Man's Sky" I would look up these channels:
ItsJosiePosie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFrmn9OArNY
Geek Remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGzKbYYURO0
theRadBrad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAIafpmqnLI
And of course me, Shardvixen. There are lots others as well and if you go to my channel and click on the playlist for the game, it will have others to look at. These were the ones who either are still going on, or quit (thus have an ending) or ended the game.
It is interesting to think about what would space be like and why haven't aliens showed up yet.
Here is a list of theories as to the why of it all.
http://listverse.com/2014/09/30/10-reasons-that-we-still-havent-found-aliens/
I sometimes wish they would come here because then maybe humanity would band together but it is more likely we would sell out the aliens and ourselves. I don't believe the character you play as in "No Man's Sky" is human. I think it might be a clone created by the aliens which need you to complete the red ball quest, the Atlas to find them or their lost selves. I think there was a galactic war between the googy creatures and the Atlas. Which one of them owns the Sentinels I am not sure as of yet.d But I could be way off in the story, maybe there isn't a story at all which is why it all seems so slow. It will be fun to see how it all plays out either on my channel or another's. At least one good thing came from it all. I GOT TO EXPLORE SPACE! And maybe other games will come after like this but with more to offer the players.

You pretentious fuck, what do you mean...duh?
Greetings All, Shardvixen Here;
So I really have a hard time with anyone who is a snob. I don't like people treating me and others like we are stupid because we didn't know some "now" movie was a remake of some "then" movie classic or in most cases not classic because only a few people know of it.
This can be said of anything. Maybe it is just me and I meet those kind of people who status and attitude is "What do you mean you didn't know....every body with a brain cell in their head knows....duh?" The internet has increased this population of beings because now they can look up little know facts and throw them at you like paper wads.
I mean if you think about how many books there are in the world, how am I suppose to know them all or even just a few. Here if you want to know, to share at some dinner party:
http://mashable.com/2010/08/05/number-of-books-in-the-world/#6a_9m0glXEq0
Depending on how fast one read, I can read about a three hundred page book in in a day, I guess you could spend your life time reading them though I don't think they are all in English, so I couldn't read them all unless I learn the language they were written in. So asking me if I knew that the movie "I am Legend" was based on a book by Richard Matheson published in 1954. I wasn't born in 1954 and for some strange reason, I am thinking because it was about vampires and I am not a real big fan of vampires especially when I was younger, this book never came within my reading lists.
After the movie came out, some dude who felt women couldn't be nerds or geeks, accosted me about my credentials on being a nerd. I never really called myself that because when I was in school (high school) I was more of a stoner chick ( smoked a lot of pot at the time) and then when I stopped smoking pot in the early 80s due to an allergy reaction to THC, I just became a weird, punk, rocker, hippy, funky chick who like Sci Fi, and Fantasy books, games and movies along with my comic books. So this guy way later in my life at a party where it was mix of geek, freaks and way out their crazy people I hung out with to do Halloween parties and Ren Fairs was talking about vampires like he was the expert on them. I was not really listening until another person brought up the movie "I am Legend" and they all said how bad it was. I, being me, had to say" Wow, I really like the movie, for a zombie/vampire movie." to which he said " I would have figure so.( in a voice that stated I was too stupid to have an opinion.
To me, those are fighting words. I knew I would end up looking the fool(which is what I was at all Ren Fairs) but No one gets to snub me. I don't know everything (well in my religion we all know everything but we block it because it would be to mind blowing to have in our little reality) but I know what i like and why I like it AND I AM NOT STUPID. I am Miss Oblivious sometimes and a fool and I miss the obvious but for the most part I can hold my own in understanding things. So I said " I like entertaining movies and it was entertaining. I could believe it could happen and that is all I need in a good, fun movie." His face held contempt as he looked me up and down and then started a lecture. He was going to lecture me on the movie, my opinions and my being female.
Asshole said" See this is why women don't understand these kind of movies. Did you know it was a book by Richard Matheson? " well he got there. I didn't know who Richard Matheson was which was the mistake from his point. And he won the great debate and I looked the fool.
i don't really mind looking the fool but I think if you have the information share but he didn't. So the next day I researched Richard Matheson.
I am amazed that I missed this author. He had written quite a few books which became movies and some of the movies I really liked. So I learn many of his short stories became Twilight Zone episodes for TV.
The thing about "I am Legend" is it was made into a movie three times before the Will Smith version. I had seen the Vincent Price version as a kid but never knew that it was the book in movie form. You watch that one on Youtube if you want to see it. It is a bit long and has a Walking Dead feeling to it even though the creatures are suppose to be vampires. I had also seen The Omega Man release in 1971 ( though I didn't see it as a new release). But again I didn't know it was written as a book first.
I really didn't get into finding out if movies came from books until much later in my life because so many of my favorite books in the 1990s were becoming movies. Richard Matheson wrote these books which became movies that I have seen; The Shrinking man- I saw the movie as a kid, Stirs of Echo which became a movie with Kevin Bacon, Hell House, Bid Time Return which inspired the movie "SomeWhere in Time" with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour in 1980,( saw this as well later on VHS), What Dreams may Come, I also saw this one on VHS and had my own copy.
You can go here to see what else he wrote:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Matheson
I saw the dickwad again at a later time and he mistakenly tried to insult me over comic books. His mistake. I happen to have a lot of the books he was talk about and I was able to hold my own with that subject. So he went back to books and science but I was done talking to him. It wasn't about him being right or his opinion, it was he wanted to be mean to me because I was (his words) an ugly woman who liked things only guys should like but he understood because I was ugly and old. By the time he got those last insulting words out, I was done with him.
I can be a woman who likes what I like. I love to learn new stuff so if you have tidbits of information about things I like, I want to know about but if you treat me like I am stupid because I don't know about it then I don't want to learn from you. The one of the things I have learned in my life is, some people need to feel powerful by treating others like they have no power. Same goes for intelligence. Some people need to feel intelligent by treating others like they are lacking intelligence. Since I relaly didn't care what this dummy though, I was willing to let it go. Con artist will sometimes treat you this way to scam you, so beware. You can know something that no one else knows but if you can't share it, then what is the use of having it.
I am sure there are a lot of trolls out there who try to play the "I am smarter, prettier, more popular and on and on " than you, but just being happy about who you are and what you have to offer is the best any of us can do and helping others learn to do the same will make this a better world in the long run.
I am outta here. See you on the flip side. Peace.

Exception to the Rule
Greetings All; Shardvixen here,
So all of life has exceptions to the rule. I am one of those. Many people don't understand how there can be people different in every set group of people. One example we could talk about is tattooed people. I am not tattooed but I love tattoos. I am not tattoo because I am afraid of doing things for the first time and tend to avoid painful things. I am sure one reason is because I have chronic pain. The other is I just can't force myself to do things I am afraid of unless I really have to like getting an MIR for the first time. The last reason is because I am an exception to the rule. If it is going to happen for the first time, it will most likely happen to me.
Exception to the rule is used in research thought they have a different name for it. Standard Deviation is what it is called. For those of you who know what that is, Hurrah because learning aobut it is a bit of a talent. Got to love the numbers. But for those of us who have had a bitch of a time learning how to explain why some things do things the way the group has decided is the right way to do things and a few do things deviant - deviant means (different from the norm{norm being all of society, well actually the average of society which is about 65% to 75% of the population } because norm doesn't in this case mean normal thought many people think that. It just means average amount)- and a small amount do something that isn't even in the realm of all the others. As me liking tattoos but not ever getting one.
In the standard deviation model we have a group or population. Here I was using tattooed people. This a a group of its own. I found an article from 2015 which will give us some numbers to work with. I am going to show you how one can simplify standard deviation to explain it and understand it. For those of you who understand it, this will seem very simple and you might not agree with it. It is fine with me if you want to leave your own idea about it.
https://www.creditdonkey.com/tattoo-statistics.html
The next link is for population of 2014 so my numbers will be a little off for those of you who need the precise info or are a bit of a perfectionist so to the US census
http://www.census.gov/popclock/
and they should have a way to calculate it better. I am just a bit lazy. ( a side note, that site is fun because it shows the population going up and down based on a birth every 7 seconds, cool)
Based on this article we will create our norm group:
The number of adults with tattoos is : estimated 49,054,748
The norm for this groups will be the oldest age group which is 30 to 39 year old women. So for all who were born in 1976 to 1985 are the norm. So if you are a woman born during those years and you are not tattooed, then you would be deviant from the norm. Within the tattooed group.
The tricky thing here is this is only 20% percent of the whole adult population, so basically the tattooed group is also a deviant group from the norm.
The further one gets from the norm, the more deviant the behavior. In this group only 20% percent had one tattoo. 14 % is the number of adults who have one or more tattoos. This would be considered a deviant behavior of the norm as well which is one tattoo. If you are a man with a tattoo you are also deviant from the norm being more women have tattoos then men unless the woman is 65 plus, then it is 3:1 man have a tattoo. (meaning 3 men to 1 woman have tattoos)
So now that you have a simple understanding of norm, deviant and how that looks, we can move on to standard deviation which is basically those who don't fit into the norm or any of the plot sets after.
I would be considered a deviation in the tattoo group because I am not tattooed
So what does this all really mean rather than just being some odd ramble of mine. Basically that I am deviant from the norm most of the time. I am the living Murphy's Law, meaning." Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".
In my case"If it has never happen before but there is a possibility it could happen, it will probably happen to me."
Examples: I get pulled over for not putting on my ticker (signal for turning) 100 yards before moving into a turn lane. Most people say they haven't gotten pulled over for it. I am sure the police officer was looking for other things to get me for. But he didn't even call in my license instead just stood at the back of his car for a bit.
Paperwork needed for something important. I don't make a copy(which I always try to) They (the people needing the paperwork) that they have never lost it or it has never not gotten to them but somehow mine always does.
My check will get lost in the mail. This has happen many times at all the different places I have lived and the Post Office has no clue where it is. The people sending it to me, will have no clue and I will have to start the process of getting it all over again.
Getting carded for using a bank card. My daughter can give her care to anyone even a male friend and they don't get carded for ID (Identification) but the first time I use it( no matter what kind of card), I will.
Show up some place where they tell me what time because no one ever comes in at that time, so I do and there will be a line and lots of people.
Having chronic pain with no reason for the pain and no one can figure out why I have the pain, so I must not have the pain or I must be faking it. ( I have had doctors hint at both of these reason my whole life. I use to believe them, now I don't and I keep pushing. I tell them I am the exception to the rule. If no one believes you, you must keep pushing if the event keeps happening, you may be the exception to the rule.)
It is rare for someone as young as 50 to get chronic shingles but I have them all the time. Hurts a lot but the doctors just ignore me because there is nothing they can do. There is a vaccine but it only last for five years, so they give it to the norm group which is 60 to 65 years old because they are more likely to become seriously ill from shingles. So I have to wait till I get older.
Speaking of the shingles, I am the exception to the rule with it as well. I don't get the rash sores in big patches, just one or two blisters with a bad case of the ichies for about a day. It is the nerve pain afterwards and the flu like feeling before. i get really sick.
I could list all the bullying I got as a kid for really dumb reasons which I was told were either non existence or just don't happen. Children don't hit you because you are skinny or you are dressed funny or the blue moon shows up. I guess I was the exception to the rule.
Why an I talking about the exception to the rule. Well because we have been seeing it a lot in the world lately.
Police officer don't just shoot people. I guess all those people shot were the exception to the rule. It doesn't mean there wasn't a valid reason, just that is was something that rarely happens, though lately it seems it may become more common or even the average event in a person's life especially if that person is of a perceived race labeled with a stereotype created by society as a way to understand behavior but that is a ramble for another day!
When there is behavior that seems out of the norm ( away from the average behavior of the known group), society wants to understand why. The authorities need to label and categorize what kind of people who be doing such behavior. Even though it seem objective and biases, it is needed in the society otherwise it would be hard to protect ourselves. Figuring out how to do it without subjecting one group to the discrimination of other groups is something society needs to define in a more supportive way rather than a punitive way.
It all comes back to how we ourselves categorize those who we like and admire and those we despise and wish to be rid of . Think about how you know you dislike some one or thing and how you like it. We do make list for meeting and being with people even if we don't know it.
I am outta here, Catch you all on the flip side. Peace.
